Abstract

Worms are a disease that is still a health problem for the people of Indonesia today. Worm infections can be transmitted through feet, hands or nails that are contaminated with soil containing worm eggs, then enter the mouth with food. Worm infections that attack the intestine consist of 3 phylum, nematodes, cestodes and trematodes. One of the areas in Pekanbaru that is susceptible to helminthiasis is the Muara Fajar Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Pekanbaru City, this area is very humid and dirty. Apart from being a landfill in Pekanbaru City, the Muara Fajar Landfill is also a source of economic activity for scavengers. Not only adult scavengers, but also children's scavengers. Children who live around this area have a higher risk of worm infection, because the landfill is used as a place to play and work for children who live in the area. This study aims to identify worm eggs on the fingernails and toenails of children at TPA Muara Fajar, Pekanbaru City. The results of the study found Ascaris lumbricoides worm eggs on 4 samples of fingernails, 4 samples of toenails and 2 samples of Taenia sp eggs on fingernails, 1 sample of toenails. Based on the research it was concluded that there were 2 types of worm eggs found on the fingernails and toenails of children at Muara Fajar Landfill Pekanbaru, is Ascaris lumbricoides and Taenia sp.
